PhD study

The Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences is an accredited institution for providing education in the following fields of study:

Chemical Engineering and Technologies – Supervisor: Dr. Igor Lacík
Chemistry – Supervisor: Dr. Jaroslav Mosnáček
Pharmacy – Supervisor: Dr. Juraj Kronek

and, within these fields, for the following doctoral study programs:

Polymer Materials Technology (FCHPT STU – SK, ENG)
Physical Chemistry (Prif UK – SK; FCHPT STU – SK, ENG)
Organic Chemistry (Prif UK – SK; FCHPT STU – SK, ENG)
Pharmaceutical Technology

Admission requirements for doctoral studies:

Once the admission process is announced, applicants must complete an application form at the secretariat of the Polymer Institute and submit a CV and a certified copy of their diploma (or a certificate of completion of studies for recent graduates). In the application, candidates typically apply for one of the advertised research topics under a specific supervisor.

Successful completion of an admission interview (held in June); the admission process takes place in a closed session before a multi-member committee. Based on the interview—which aims to assess general knowledge of physical, organic, and macromolecular chemistry at the university level, foreign language proficiency, and the focus of the applicant’s master’s thesis—the committee ranks the successful candidates who have met the required criteria.

Upon passing the exam and being accepted, doctoral students benefit from favorable financial conditions for their studies.

The start date for doctoral studies is usually September 2nd.

Doctoral studies may be pursued on a full-time basis—for which no fees have currently been set—or on an external basis, where all expenses are covered by the employing organization.
