Pozvánka na prednášku – Dr. Rafal Poreba

Dear colleagues,
Scientific Board of the Polymer Institute SAS cordially invites you to attend on the lecture, which will be held in the Lecture hall of the Polymer Institute SAS on October, 24th at 13.30.

Speaker: Dr. Rafal Poreba
Title: Protein resistant surfaces through advanced non-fouling polymer brushes
Institution: Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences (IMC)

Annotation:
Research has shown that certain types of polymer brushes can effectively reduce, or in some cases, even completely prevent protein fouling and its related undesired side effects. Thereby, their utilization for the modification of vascular grafts, coronary stents, heart valves, catheters, ophthalmic implants, circulatory assist devices, and extracorporeal devices is increasingly growing. The synthesis of polymer brushes is typically realized through one of several surface-initiated (SI) reversible-deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) techniques currently available. Among the various RDRP methods, Cu-mediated atom-transfer radical polymerization (Cu-ATRP) and reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) have emerged as the most powerful and versatile techniques for their synthesis. During the presentation, the rational design of surface modifications that can effectively prevent protein fouling, cell adhesion, and bacterial attachment will be introduced and discussed.
