International workshop from Young Scientists Council
(First international workshop on “soft skills” for young polymer scientists)

The Young Scientists Council (YSC) at the Polymer Institute of Slovak Academy of Sciences organizes international workshop dedicated on soft skills from 11. – 16. October 2017. The targeted audiences of this workshop are PhD students and young researchers from selected Research and Education Institutions in the V4 countries. This workshop is supported by the International Visegrad Fund

For the successful career start of a scientist, it is necessary not only the expertise but also the communication skills and the skills in the academic writing. To improve these "soft skills" for novice scientists, the Council of Young Scientists is organizing the

International Soft Skills Training

Selected PhD students and young scientists from the SAS Polymer Institute and selected partner institutions from the Czech Republic (Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of Czech Academy of Sciences and Tomas Bata University in Zlín), Hungary (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) and Poland (Centre of Polymer and Carbon Material, Polish Academy of Sciences) will be able to improve their writing and project management skills, academic writing and presentation skills. The workshop program also includes a practical part - working on micro-projects in groups led by experienced mentors.

The long-term goal of this activity is to increase the competitiveness of young scientists. Common work on microprojects should lead to cooperation among young scientists in the V4 countries, facilitate discussion of common scientific issues and create a platform for exchange of information. The ambition of the workshop is to raise awareness of the participating institutions and their research topics, expand scientific mobility in the region and set a barrier against so-called brain drain from the V4 countries.
